Get ready for your fall roadtrip!
Fall is a beautiful time to explore various places in the US with vibrant foliage and pleasant weather. Here are some of my personal favorite fall roadtrip destinations and drives:
- New England: The entire region, including states like Vermont, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts, is famous for its stunning fall foliage. Some recommendations: Visit Stowe, Vermont for foliage and some great autumn eats. The Kancamagus Highway in New Hampshire is particularly renowned for its scenic views. Salem, MA is a great treat to visit in October for a witchy good time!
- New York: Upstate New York, especially the Adirondacks and the Catskills, offers breathtaking autumn landscapes with tons of lakes and waterfalls. Some recommendations: Book a cozy stay in Lake Placid and hit some hiking trails. Drive through the Catskills stopping at all the little, cute towns along the way. Be sure to visit Kaaterskill Falls for one of America’s most iconic views!
- The Blue Ridge Parkway (Virginia & North Carolina): This scenic drive offers some of the best fall foliage views in the country. With plenty of turnouts along the way with short hiking trails to fully submerse yourself in the changing leaves. The surrounding areas, including Staunton and Asheville, are also great for exploring with plenty of little shops, great local restaurants and breweries.
- Great Smoky Mountains National Park (Tennessee): Known for its diverse plant life, the Smokies provide a spectacular display of fall colors. You’ll find some epic views from way up high!
- Natchez Trace Parkway (Mississippi to Tennessee): Fall colors galore along this 444 mile scenic drive stretching from Natchez, Mississippi to Nashville, Tennessee. The Parkway has plenty of historical markers along the way for an entertaining and educational drive.
- M-22 (Michigan): Along the coast of Lake Michigan, this 116 mile drive is full of breath-taking color in the autumn. Drive through the canopies of trees for a truly memorable time. Be sure to stop in Traverse City for some amazing food (and pie!)
- Shenandoah National Park (Virginia): The Skyline Drive offers 105 miles of scenic beauty through the Blue Ridge Mountains with plenty of opportunities to see fall colors. Looking for a double whammy? Shenandoah NP connects to the Blue Ridge Parkway!
Each of these fall roadtrip destinations offers unique experiences and beautiful landscapes that are perfect for a fall getaway. Be sure to check online for peak foliage maps before you venture out!
